Abstract

The memory of the Night Shift Institute Angel Valentino Barrios is built using the methodology of oral history, based on the testimonies of graduate students, active and retired teachers, the review of official documents, record books, and reports filed by the Institute. The results presented are the product of the fundamental aspects of the history of the Institute, including: its foundation, the origin of its name, the various facilities that the school has occupied, the social context surrounding the Institute, the characterization of its students, and finally the circumstances in which the Institute was closed. The article concludes by reflecting on the importance of the recovery of the historical memory of schools as a task that also concerns teachers for the strengthening of local and institutional identity and the promotion of values such as local and national identity and belonging, useful values in the preservation and care of public and private property.
