Abstract

Learning a second language has become normalized as part of the personal and professional development of the student body in today’s world. Therefore, the development of oral communication in the English language is one of the most essential skills that we must improve if we want to communicate in a globalized world. However, communicating in a second language can be difficult for many students in the classroom. That is why this paper focuses on investigating the role of participation in oral communication in English classes. To discuss the value of participation in English language teaching, a literature review was carried out. This review allowed us to identify some reasons why students hesitate to participate. For example: little linguistic command of the English language on the part of teachers or a focus on teaching grammar in the classroom.
