Abstract

Communication relationships were studied with an intercultural and gender approach of the Chorotega indigenous community, with the objective of knowing the strategic role and perspectives that intercultural communication has in it. The struggle of this ethnic group has favored the creation of a legal framework that claims property in their territories, even beyond their municipal limits; their forms of organization, traditions and customs. Intercultural communication spaces make it possible to make visible the thinking and way of being of indigenous populations. Government and municipal entities work on development issues in the municipal space in a coordinated manner: NGOs with departmental coverage develop actions on productive, environmental, social and gender issues; those of a territorial or local nature show greater activity in the issues of indigenous peoples and youth. There are collaboration networks in the indigenous territory; The one that brings together the majority of organizations is the “Food Security and Income Generation” cluster, promoted by the Swiss NGO, INTERTEAM. The practices and roles that women and men perform are presented, analyzed from the Sexual Division of Labor and future perspectives
